This course shall cover the fundamental concepts of seismic design of steel structures, ranging from various types of lateral force-resisting systems, earthquake performance of these systems to the advanced design philosophy and detailing techniques. Participants shall get an opportunity to get hands-on experience by using standard computer software for modelling, analysis and data interpretation. Materials science involves disparate length and time scales spanning Angstroms to meters and femtoseconds to years depending on the problem of interest. The instructor proposes an intensive twenty-hour course on computational materials science involving lectures and hands-on tutorials in atomistic simulations incorporating semi-empirical potentials.
