Professor Harun Venkatesan

Dr. Harun Venkatesan graduated from Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong S. A. R with a PhD in Textile Technology. He had pursued his Masters in Textile Engineering at Wuhan Textile University, P. R. China and B. Tech in Textile Chemistry with university gold medal from Anna University, India. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the City University of Hong Kong and RTH postdoctoral fellow at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His major research areas are the development of advanced materials and technical textiles. He used “learn from the nature” strategy to develop biomimetic textile materials. His current areas of research are focussed on thermal management in textiles that includes developing aerogel for superior thermal insulation properties, fabrics for cooling and moisture management, novel fibre spinning and chemical recycling of textile fibres for functional and high performance applications. He had worked with leading textile industries in India and China in the areas of value-added processing and product development. In addition to academic research and industrial experience, he had also taken leadership and mentorship roles in student engagement programs designed for mental health development and out-of-class learning.
